We didn’t get engaged in the typical manner.
We had food poisoning in India on Christmas day, 2015. My mum kindly lied to the hospital, telling them Fiona and I were married so that we could get a room together. Between bouts of dehydration-induced sleep and food-induced diarrhea I told Fiona that I would like some day to actually be her husband. She replied that she, too, would some day like to actually be my wife.
That was it. No one got down on a knee and no one was asked for permission. It was nice. Except for the food poisoning.
